| Concessionary travel resumed on 5th October 2008 | ||

Heart of Wales Line concessionary travel resumed on Sunday 5th October 2008 and runs until 2nd May 2009. Early indications suggest that many travellers are already taking advantage of the concessionary rail travel scheme. On the first Sundays of November and December 2008, and on the first Sundays of February to May 2009, the Creole Jazz Quartet will play some toe tapping tunes on the 11.06 from Swansea as far as Llandovery. (Posted 21 October 2008) |

| Roast and Rail, Cakes and Ale | ||

Roast and Rail, Cakes and Ale is the name for the latest Heart of Wales Line promotion. There are 30 participating venues close to the line that are offering some or all of the above choices. Members received a Roast and Rail, Cakes and Ale brochure with their Autumn Newsletters. Brochures are also available from Tourist Information Centres. (Posted 6th October) |

| Free Travel Update | ||
|
The
Welsh Assembly Government announced on 12th May 2008 that the
free travel
scheme on
the Heart of Wales Line for
Cerdyn Cymru bus pass holders who are residents of Swansea, Carmarthenshire
and Powys will be suspended from 18th May 2008 - 4th October 2008 inclusive.
There will be no free travel between these dates. It will resume on 5th
October 2008 and run until 2nd May 2009. |

| Wrexham & Shropshire | ||

A
train service linking Wrexham and London via Shrewsbury has re-started
after a break of over 40 years. The
five times daily service, which passes through Shrewsbury provides a new
service to London for Heart of Wales Line customers with only one change
of train. The service has been started by Wrexham and Shropshire rail
with no public subsidy. There are five trains a day on weekdays, with
four on Saturdays and three on Sundays. On board, Wrexham and Shropshire
offer the highest standards of service. Each train has both first and
standard class accommodation and will serve a range of local food and
drink. |

| Steam on The Heart of Wales Railway |

On two consecutive Saturdays in April the Heart of Wales Line hosted special steam trains. The double-headed train with 12 former BR carriages travelled south on the first Saturday and returned seven days later. On both Saturdays the passengers were able to enjoy the delights of Llandrindod during a two-hour break to take on water. (Posted 16 May 2008) |

The Heart of Wales Railway Line is part of the main rail network....but with a difference.
